Lionsgate will open their prequel John Rambo on June 4 next year.
The pic will bow in the post Memorial Day frame following Disney/Lucasfilm’s Star Wars: Starfighter from director Shawn Levy and star Ryan Gosling. The other only wide release on June 4 next year is an untitled feature from Praamount.
John Rambo explores the soldier’s origin story and the events preceding 1982’s First Blood. Noah Centineo is taking over the bandana and the 420 J2 stainless steel blade from Sylvester Stallone, who made the protag famous.
John Rambo is directed by Jalmari Helander (Sisu), the pic is produced by Kevin King Templeton, Les Weldon, Jonathan Yunger, Angela Russo-Otstot, and Michael Disco, and executive produced by Stallone, AGBO’s Anthony & Joe Russo, Trevor Short, Dallas Sonnier, and Amanda Presmyk. It is written by Rory Haines and Sohrab Noshirvani.
The Rambo franchise through five movies have grossed north of $819M at the global box office.
