Paul Feig’s highest grossing movie ever, The Housemaid, arrives on premium digital and premium video on demand on Tuesday, Feb. 3. By the way, that’s a 46-day theatrical window. The Lionsgate movie clicked past the $300M mark at the global box office earlier this week, and last weekend, the pic surpassed Feig’s Bridesmaids as his highest grossing movie.
The Housemaid is the fourth movie from producer Todd Lieberman and his Hidden Pictures to click past the three-century mark worldwide. Hidden Pictures sourced the underlying material by author Freida McFadden, set the project up at Lionsgate, hired Feig, and shepherded the film through production. A sequel is already in the works from screenwriter Rebecca Sonnenshine, who adapted McFadden’s novel. Feig is expected to return to the director’s chair
In Housemaid, recent ex-con Millie (Sydney Sweeney) accepts a job as a live-in housemaid for the wealthy Nina (Amanda Seyfried) and Andrew Winchester (Brandon Sklenar). But what begins as a dream job quickly unravels into something far more dangerous — a sexy, seductive game of secrets, scandal, and power. Behind the Winchesters’ closed doors lies a world of shocking twists that will leave you guessing until the very end. The movie is 92% with audiences on Rotten Tomatoes and has a 74% certified fresh rating with critics.
