Disney is doing cartwheels over Zootopia 2 becoming the highest-grossing domestic release of 2025, flying past A Minecraft Movie, with $424.2M at the domestic box office and $1.85B worldwide ($1.425B international) and counting. The first Zootopia grossed $1B worldwide back in 2016. Note that $337.9M of Zootopia 2‘s money was made in 2025. The milestone brings the Zootopia franchise to close to $3 billion worldwide.
Both movies took about the same time to reach their final box office figures — about three months. Zootopia 2 pulled off the feat in 91 days. It’s the second back-to-back year that Walt Disney Studios has delivered the No. 1 domestic release. Disney also delivered three of the top four domestic releases of 2025 with Lilo & Stitch and Avatar: Fire & Ash.
The sequel directed by Jared Bush and Byron Howard has already broken a ton of records starting with a global five-day opening of $559.5M — the largest animated opening ever in history. Zootopia 2 became the fastest animated MPA and PG film ever to hit $1 billion around the world, reaching that feat in 17 days. Talk about the power of theatrical: Now in its 13th week, Zootopia 2 has remained in the top 10 domestically for 13 straight weeks.
Other records broken by Zootopia 2:
- #1 Animated MPA Film of All Time Globally

- #8 Highest-Grossing MPA Release Ever Globally
- WDAS’s 5th Film to Cross $400M Domestic
- 2nd Highest Thanksgiving Opening Ever Domestically, behind only Moana 2 (Disney holds 9 of the Top 10 Thanksgiving openings of all time)
