Warner Bros is moving the M. Night Shyamalan-directed Remain, the feature adaptation of the New York Times bestseller he co-wrote with author Nicholas Sparks, to February 5, 2027.
The pic, a supernatural love story, was originally scheduled to hit theaters on October 23, 2026.
Why the move? Given what Warner Bros’ is seeing on presales for its Valentine’s Day event pic Wuthering Heights (expected to do $40M), the studio wants to capitalize on the lovers holiday corridor as a launchpad next year with Remain. Reportedly, the movie has the highest test scores of Shyamalan’s career.
Remain hit bookstands on October 14, 2025. The novel follows a New York architect (Jake Gyllenhaal) who arrives in Cape Cod following a stint in an upscale psychiatric facility where he was treated for acute depression after losing his beloved sister who could see spirits — a trait that runs in the family. He falls for Wren (Phoebe Dynevor), who has a lot going on beneath the surface, things that could threaten their fragile relationship just as it begins to blossom. Tate realizes that in order to free Wren from an increasingly desperate fate, he will need to unearth the truth about her past before time runs out.
Producers are Shyamalan and Ashwin Rajan through Blinding Edge Pictures alongside Marc Bienstock and Sparks’ producing partner Theresa Park. Sparks is EP.
Remain also stars Ashley Walters, Julie Hagerty, Jay O. Sanders, Tracy Ifeachor, Hannah James, Caleb Ruminer, Kieran Mulcare and Maria Dizzia.
Also bowing on February 5 next year is 20th Century Studios’ Ice Age: Boiling Point and an untitled Judd Apatow comedy at Universal. Warner Bros had always had the date on reserve for an untitled rom-com event movie.
