Overall, the Jared Bush and Byron Howard directed animated movie is the 9th highest grossing movie ever at the global box office, and also passes 2019’s The Lion King ($1.663B), Jurassic World at ($1.672B). The Zootopia 2 franchise counts a running cume of $2.7 billion.

Zootopia 2 reaches this milestone in its eighth weekend with a running total of $390M domestic, and $1.3B abroad.

China Ne Zha 2 remains the highest grossing animated movie ever worldwide with $2.2B.

Hollywood likes to cry a river about how China no longer works for them at the box office, but for Zootopia 2, the market is king with $618.9M; the highest MPA animated release of all-time there, as well as ten markets including France ($71.7M). Zootopia 2 clicked in China for myriad reasons: the whole notion of the luck of the rabbit, and the franchise’s popularity at the parks. The sequel remained the No. 1 movie over the weekend in Japan and China. Japan’s running cume is $83M. The sequel is also the highest grossing Walt Disney Animated release of all-time in 26 markets including China, France and Mexico.

Other benchmarks for Zootopia 2: It’s the No. 1 global MPA release of 2025, as well as the No. 1 international MPA title release of last year. Walt Disney Studios owns the top three animated MPA releases with Zootopia 2, Inside Out 2, and Frozen 2.

Zootopia 2 is also the fastest MPA animated title, and PG-rated to hit $1B at the global box office.

The sequel opened over the Thanksgiving stretch (Nov. 26, 2025) to a record-breaking $559.5 million in five days, becoming the highest global animated opening of all time, the highest global debut of 2025, and the highest global opening for any animated film in Disney history.
