Brand New Day’ Posts Best First Day Presales 5 Years

EXCLUSIVE: Sony and Marvel Studios’ Spider-Man: Brand New Day is bringing some ka-pow and boom to advance ticket sales, to use comic-book lingo: The sequel starring Tom Holland and directed by Destin Daniel Cretton has posted the best first-day presales in five years, we hear.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day opens on July 31 in the wake of Universal’s Christoper Nolan epic The Odyssey two weeks prior.

The last time we had big presales records was for Spider-Man: No Way Home. That 2021 movie, before posting the second-best opening at the domestic B.O. ever ($260.1M) behind 2019’s Avengers: Endgame ($357.1M), had accumulated an estimated $78M in presales before its December 17 opening. Spider-Man: Brand New Day takes place following the events of No Way Home, after Peter Parker has erased the memories of g.f. MJ (Zendaya).

We understand that Spider-Man: Brand New Day also beats Disney/Marvel Studios’ Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, which opened to $187.4M in 2022.

At the global B.O., Spider-Man: No Way Home owns the third-best opening of all time with $600.5M behind Avengers: Endgame ($1.22 billion) and 2018’s Avengers: Infinity War ($640.5M).

As to whether this is the last Holland Spider-Man, Cretton told us on Crew Call: “Is there ever a last Spider-Man? Everyone should go to this [movie] as if it’s the last Spider-Man.” Despite Holland’s injury on set, the latest sequel did not get delayed from its July 31 date. Also the fact that the movie is opening without Imax, which are committed to The Odyssey, didn’t force the sequel to move from its opening day either.
